Health and safety support for SMEs
SafePlus-informed improvement
WorkSafe’s SafePlus framework looks at how health and safety works through three connected themes. Auditsure applies those themes in a proportionate review for SMEs, turning observations and evidence into a clear improvement plan.
Explore the SafePlus readiness review →Are owners and leaders setting direction, providing resources and checking that improvement actually happens?
Can people participate, raise concerns and influence decisions about the work that may harm them?
Are health and safety risks identified, assessed and controlled—and is control effectiveness checked?
This is an independent Auditsure readiness and improvement service informed by SafePlus. It is not WorkSafe’s formal SafePlus Onsite Assessment and Advisory Service, does not provide a SafePlus maturity rating, and does not imply WorkSafe endorsement.

Explore this pathway →Critical health & safety risks
WorkSafe says businesses should focus on critical risks first. These are risks that could result in death, a notifiable injury or illness, a notifiable incident, or a recognised occupational disease. The exact risks are different for every business, so they must be identified from the work actually being done.
WorkSafe advises that small PCBUs with fewer than 20 workers will be required to manage critical risks and prioritise them. Larger PCBUs must manage both critical and other risks, while giving critical risks the highest priority.
Falls from roofs, scaffolds, ladders, openings or other elevated work can cause fatal or life-changing harm.
Forklifts, trucks, excavators and moving equipment can strike, crush or trap workers and other people.
Unguarded machinery, unexpected start-up and uncontrolled hydraulic, electrical or mechanical energy can be catastrophic.
Acute exposure, fire, explosion and long-term occupational disease can arise when substances, dust or asbestos are not controlled.
Contact with live services, overhead lines, damaged equipment or poorly isolated systems can result in electrocution or fire.
Toxic atmospheres, low oxygen, engulfment and difficult rescue can turn one entry into multiple casualties.
Unsecured loads, lifting work, excavations, demolition and unstable structures can expose several people at once.
Silica, fumes, noise and other chronic exposures can cause serious disease even when the harm is not immediately visible.
These are common examples, not a complete list. Your critical risks depend on your activities, workplace and industry. Source: WorkSafe New Zealand — How to manage work risks.

Common questions
Clear answers before you commit to any work.
John will ask about your work, workforce, immediate concerns and any client or project requirements. You will receive a practical recommendation about the most useful next step, including when Auditsure may not be needed.
Yes. Auditsure specialises in proportionate support for SMEs, contractors, farms, marae and growing businesses that need practical systems without employing a full-time health and safety manager.
Both. Document reviews and planning can often begin remotely. Site audits, critical-control verification, worker engagement and task-specific reviews are completed onsite where observation of the work is important.
Timing depends on the scope, location and current workload. After the initial conversation, Auditsure confirms availability, the information required and a realistic delivery date before work starts.
